how many gallons per hour

I'm planning a 78 gallon tank, how many gallons per hour should I be turning over if I plan on keeping lps and some sps.

thanks

4 times exchange is good. But good cross flow , and if sps and lps deticated tank then light very important. The better the light the happier the stoneys. And consistant water readings at perfered readings . Its the combination of all for a healthy sps tank.

And are the gallons per hour for a stand alone tank or with a refugium ?

I am going to have about +25 times or so, in a mixed reef, 110g. Some SPS tanks have more then twice that. It really depends on what exactly your keeping. Certain SPS demand tons of flow, a lot of LPS don't like thousands of gallons dumping on them. You'll have to modify your flow and placement of corals so that it gives enough flow to the SPS but not too much to the LPS, yet still picks up detris, towards your overflow/skimmer.

3-5x turnover through your sump, but tank turnover should be 30-35X at least. I keep lps and sps and have 40x turnover. Don't run a high turnover through your sump. Keep sump turnover at 3-5X per hour. Your system will run quieter, and skim much more efficently.
