How many Green Chromis?

How many green chromis do you think should I put in my 180g tank?

And should I buy them all together and put them in tank or should I buy them in 2 times so the tank can handle the bioload of the new fish ?

it all depends, ...

what else is in the tank fish wise? how old is the tank? what kind and size of filter do you have on your tank?

are you doing this to cycle the tank? I did 3 in my 55 as first fish and didn't see any ammonia spike. Think before you go with chromis (or any damsel for that matter) The green chromis are probably the tamest, and I have had good luck with them, but they still can be aggressive if you are unlucky. I personally wouldn't add them to my tank again just out of fear.

If you decide to go that route, and end up with agressive ones, I have had good luck re-arranging rock when I've put in new fish. Messes up the agressor's territory.

skeeter-doc has a good point.

how long has the tank been established?

IF anything, its a 180 gallon tank... you shouldnt have to put 2 at a time, more like 5-10 at a time would still be fine.

how many green chromis? depends on how many you want i guess. if you just love green chromises and want to just fill up a tank with them only...then im not really sure how much you could fit...but it it was me, i'd probably be satisfied with a school of say 15 or 20 chromis within a 180 gallon tank.

My Tank is 8 months old, parametres are just fine. I have 2 overflows and connected underneath I have a 30g Refugium / Sump.

My current fish are:
2 Ocellaris Clowns
1 Mandarin
1 Algae Blenny
1 Fox Face

Guys are the chromis aggresive? I want to have a community tank, in near future I am planning to have these fish:

Yellow tang
Blue surgean fish
flame angel
Goby
cardinal

etc ..

I have a couple in my 110 and they are not aggressive at all. As mentioned they are probably the tamest damsels out there and some of the hardiest.

Just make sure that they are odd numbered. With any school there will be one female, and the rest will be males. If there are an odd number of males, one will be killed by the rest to "rebalance".

I've had chromis and damsels and they both are extremely aggressive IMO. The day I put a green chromis in my tank my Maroon Clown wouldn't come out of the rocks for days and then showed signs of nipped fins.

I recently added 3 green chromis to my 110 display. I wanted some colorful active fish that would stay in the upper portion of the water column. I always had a negative opinion of damsels and so I never really considered them. My local LFS convinced me they would be well behaved. They have been in my tank for about a month and they have almost become my favorite fish. They really are an attractive fish, and are always on the move. They keep to themselves and often "kiss" like kissing gourami's. I am not sure what that means but it seems harmless and my kids get tickled by it.

What, Kravi said makes sense. I put six green cromis' in my tank about a year ago (i have a 90 gl). Within a few months, there were only five...guess one got killed off.

Odd or even doesn't matter.
Some have good and some have had bad luck with chromis.
The difference I've seen between them and other damsels is the chromis may go at each other until there is one left, whereas damsels are mean to all fish.
I've had my same 6 chromis for 4 1/2 years now with no aggression whatsoever.
Passive with all my fish and have brought out shy fish.
Love them, and totally worth the risk IMO
Think they shoal best when there's a fish or 2 a bit bigger than them to keep them in check.
Mine have even adapted to my nems (pics in gallery)
I'd throw 5- 10 in a 180, add more later if you really like them.

I have never seen a chromis hurt anything. For that tankl I would easily put 6-7. They wont hurt anything. theyre the chicken of the sea

Seems to me like your planning on a lot of fish, plus chromis need to be feed very often (3-4 times daily) esp if they are small which they often are when you buy them, and you want to grow them out.

My tank is a similar size (~200g) and have 2xtangs, 13x pyjama cardinals, 2x clowns, royal gramma, bi-color blenny. I think that I'm starting to push the limits for my bioload.

Feed 3-4 times a day?
Are you confusing with anthias or something?
Mine get fed once a day, fat and happy.

I have 8, one didn't make it through qt. They are nice fish, and really pulled the rest of the fish out of the rocks. Never seen them be an aggressor. If anything they are the first to dart to safety.

Some have luck some don't.

I have a 3 stripe damsel in his own 10g because he was just so mean. Nothing like a chromis.

When I got them I went to the lfs. They had 2 tanks of them. I sat there for 30 minutes and the tank on the right seemed a bit more schooling and not so picky at each other. I took the 9 in the right tank.

They dont need to be fed 4 times a day, i fed them once per day 5 days a week in qt for 2 months. They all grew considerably except for one that parished in the first week.

I have had 5 BG Chromis for over a 1 1/2 years and they have had no problems. They are the pigs of the tank and will out compete the other fish for food if I'm not carefull. Other than that, they are fine. They have never bothered any of my other fish.

agree with most they are the fish to add great for the tank as far as a show i have a 120 added 7 one died in the first week the other six have been doing great so much more fun to watch the tank now

I put three of them about 4 days ago.
They where about 3 inches..And they are very peacefull so far.
However my powder blue tang keeps them in check once in a while.
