How many is to many? (chromis)

I read somewhere that if you have to many chromis is a tank they will start eating each other. I thinking of adding 10 to my 72 gallon tank. The specific king of chromis I want are the blue green chromis.

True! I have tried to keep a school of chromis many times, & I always end with one :( I had my last pair for two years & thought I'd figured it out but again, I ended up with one happy singleton!

I believe that 10 is a good number, I have had mine for over a yr now and they aren't aggressive toward one another at all. My juv emepror don't like them much though. Just a disclaimer I started with 25 of them and now have 10, not because they killed each other but during the first month or so of having them they slowly died off for no outward reason ie disease. Most people get them because they school, which mine still do but after awhile when they become comfortable in your DT that will stop too

One (or a pair) per roughly four square feet of tank footprint seems to be about the sustainable stocking density for these damselfish.

Anything more is simply not likely to work in the long term. Might work for a month, might work for a year, but eventually their territoriality will come out in the typical home aquarium.
