I do...If you want one get a Juv. Then get an autofeeder and fill it with Newlife spectrum pellets. Feed with that 4 times a day. Next step is feeding frozen foods loaded with sponge...Do all these things and you better your odds.

Juvi is a must. Watching it change is part of the fun. Plus from the looks of it, they take awhile to change. Thanks for the pointers!!

Hi,

I have one since 3 weeks now. So far so good.
This fish (juvenile, 3.5") is amazing. So active, playful and curious about everything that goes on in and out of the tank.

I was wondering if anyone had the joy to bring one from Juvenile to adulthood and for how long you kept it.

I know I will have to upgrade probably in a few years to something a lot larger but, hey, that's part of the fun.

Marc.

Had my emp for about 16 months, gone from a 2 1/2" juvenile to a 4 1/2" sub-adult. Shape has changed, mouth area is white, and yellow stripes are coming in nicely.

Sadly, I will be selling him in the next few months as I am upgrading to a reef tank...

I have an sps tank with a couple of lps and have an Emperor and a Regal in their for a year now no problems.
Here is how much my Emperor has changed this year:

I have a big fat one. I bought as a juv. I guess I was lucky, he has always been a great eater. Have had him for over 1yr and is my show fish. I have never had any problem with him eating sps in my reef. I feed him big pieces of krill,

Wow ObscurityKnocks, the transformation is amazing.

Mine does not bother my 2 leathers or the Star Polyp so far.
It does nip lightly at the Carpet anemone though from time to time but so far it doesn't seem to threath it's health.

I hope my 2 false pers will eventually host the Carpet anemone so it is somewhat more protected.

Mine too is eating a lot and always on the look for more.

Cheers,

Marc.

so even as a juvie does anyone think they will be safe if held with a few clams? both are pretty large and im going to try and find the smallest juvie i can to go in the tank

I kind of messed the poll up, I think clams fit under "mixed reef" right? People who have them in mixed reefs, you have clams too then? I read LPS and clams were the main target.

mattyice: try to get a juvi in the 3 inch range. If you get them to small they are not as hardy, and harder to feed. Same goes for large ones. Try not to get one over 6 inches. It is harder for them to adapt to captive live, and almost imposible to find one that size that will not have a taste for corals.
