How many people would use Seachem Reef Salt

I wouldn't just because of a known out of range (or rather over range) component. If I didn't know about it I would try it but I'm very happy with IO. That and the squirlyness (is that a word?) over other past issues.

Doc, I picked up a box of that IO that was on sale and I'm going to try that combo we were talking about using coralife/IO in a mix. Hoping to mix up some this weekend and see what the values measure out to.

I've always used IO and will stick with that. Coralife is tempting dt it being cheap, but I think you make up for that with supplementation in the long run.

what kindof long run supplementation are you talking about? Iv'e been using coralife and dont want to be missing out.

Probably experienced like I have. Every time I mix up my coralife I have high Ca, fairly high magnesium, but low alk and pH.

I believe the new version of Reef Salt doesn't have that issue . I would like to be able to buy it local but more people would need to be interested first . It is the only salt I believe that has the correct levels of potasium in it .

As for Coral life salt you should run some test on a fresh batch and let me know what you came up with .I was very surprised by my tests on mine .

I am currently using a bucket of Coralife. It tested as follows mixed at 1.023

Cal - 560
Alk - 10dkh
Mag - 1300

All salifert tests

I was thinking I'd like to try the new Seachem salt but no one sells it here local. :(

He's talking about calcium and magnesium. IO is a little on the low side with these. Otherwise its a fine salt IMO

See, that's not been my experience with the coralife. I mix it with my RO/DI at temp up to 1.025 and while my Ca is around 500 and mag is around 1300, my pH is 8.0 and alk is about 6 dkh.

All salifert tests as well.

My tests from back in Feb
CORALIFE SALT

Readings on a fresh batch last night
RO unit PO4 Readings using a hanna meter 0.06

Saltwater mixed at 1.025

Calcium 500
KH 7.5
Mag 2250
PO4 0.86

This is whats wrong with CORALIFE Salt

John

My readings using Seachem Reef Salt back in Feb
Ok the first tests are in at 1.024

Calcium is at 400
PO4 is at 0.04 Ro unit water is at 0.04 also
KH is at 8.0
Mag is at 1470 using the same kit as before on the coralife that measured 2280 mag

I mixed it with my drill adaptor so I would think it got well aerated

I think I know a place that will be carrying it local soon .I think the price will be around $59.99 plus tax for a 160 gallon bucket . I will let everyone know as soon as I know .Should know by tommorrow

I'm on a budget with salt...especially with 1000+ gallons. I am leaning towards buying a pallet of Instant Ocean every two years. It will save on costs.

you should get everyone else who uses IO in on this. then you could order like 2-3 pallets every 2 years and save much more!

:D
