How many powerheads

I have a 90 AGA with a sump and a mag 1200 return. I used the head loss calculator and I will be running approx 680 gal/hr from the return pump.I currently only have fish and LR but will be moving on to corals as soon as the tank matures.

How many powerheads do I need in the tank to supplement the flow from the return?

What size?

Would four on a wavemaing controller be too much?

I am currently thinking about 2 maxi-jet 1200s.

Any advice?

Having flow crash into opposite flow seems to be the consensus. Either way you mentioned would work. I would try for around 2000gph turnover as a goal. With fish only the 2 maxijets would probably be enough, but eventually a wavemaker or closed loop may be the ticket.

no need for a wavemaker or closed loops we are in the age of the propellar pump tunze streams hydor koralias these are what he needs

you need much more than 2 maxi jets i reccomend two Hydor Koralia 4s or two tunze nano stream 6045 or 6055 on a tunze controller flow is essential to oxygen levels and growth also helps to eliminate dead spots in the tank

Definitely get a Tunze! I just got one and couldn't be happier. Gte one with a controller because some coral might not like a lot of flow. You pay for what you get and I'm sure God used a Tunze
