how many radions for a 40 breeder

Going to be in process of setting up a 40 breeder softy (colt, xenia, star polyp, green leathersn and a bta) and was wondering if 1 radion xr30 pro would be enough to light it. I have no interest in doing sps in the future.

i would think one would be enough...just hang it up higher off the tank...you have alittle shadowing on the sides but for softies ...you dont really need that much of light anyways...

The softies may not need much light but the BTA does. So I would try placing it up close to the surface to start with and let it move to where it wants to be from there.

The Chinese LED's are actually pretty good and sell for only $83 shipping included on Ebay. I've got one on my 40b and it works great. I do have darker 6" on each side of the tank but it works out well for corals that like less light. This light will grow any coral you will ever want to keep, including SPS. There are many of us here on RC that have them and they have a great reputation. There is a thread about them in the Lighting forum.

I have a Gen 2 over a 40 breeder. There's plenty of light, but I think that you may be better served by a pair of XR 15's to cover the width a bit more evenly without a ton of height.

Agree. One xr 30 is enough but it's a big hot spot in the middle and weak on the edges. Two xr15 would be better since you can space them wider for more even light distribution
