How many tangs, 125g?

Asking what tangs to keep on here is like asking for an arguement to break out. You can probably have as many as you want as long as you provide a food source and remove the bio. I personally I have a powder brown and a small sailfin in my 125. I know the sailfin will outgrow my tank but I will rebuild when the time comes.

On what do you base your opinion that 5 tangs are "ok" in the 125?

I agree, IMO, this is too much...I have now 3 tangs in my 125gal living together peacefully for years and I think about removing my blue hyppo...It tends to being more bully with time (they are sooo sweet when they are small...but time goes by and they move as little devil)...I'll also remove the yellow tang and stick with the chocolate tang as the only tang in my tank(and as the only ''big'' fish anyway).

Few years ago, I've tried a powder brown with those 3 others and after few months (maybe 8 or 10), the powder brown waste away...(and I observed that all my tangs were always stressed by the others...since the PBT passed away, everyting is ok) Not a good idea IMO to put more than 3 tangs in a 125gal...

Here is my take, you already have two tangs who will outgrow your current system (hippo and sailfin) and of your wish list only the kole is an appropriate size fish for a tank that size IMO. Honestly if this were my system I would look for homes for the sailfin and hippo, they will outgrow this system and faster than one might think.
