How much flow can a brain coral take?

I would not place it directly in front of your outlet. When fully open it should sway gently in the current, not look as if it is beeing blasted.

I had my open brains on the bottom of my tank one was near the left side, then center, then the right side. My flow from the return pump hits the left glass wall first then travels down to the SB. My return pump is a quietones 6000 and the tank is 36"hx30"wx20"d so I figure there might be around 850 gph actually making out of the locline fittings. The first lob on the left side would not inflate, sitting with the edges of its skeleton revealed. The second and third looked better, inflated all the time. So I played with their locations and the direction of flow in the tank and found a happy ,edium for everything. Now there is little flow moving over the lob's and trach's and they are fully inflated and gorgeous!

I'll post some pictures for you so you can see the difference it made in my corals!

Cheers

The pics aren't great but you'll get the idea.

The tank before I did some mod's to the flow and location of some corals, the trach in the next pic is on the very left side.:

The Trachyphyllia g. (on the right side now, under the ledge of the first picture) after I did said changes:

Hope this gives you an idea of what altering the flow can achieve.

I'll try and find a picture with it uninflated for a better comparison.

Cheers
