as much as the tank can handle without water spilling over the sides onto the floor :)
i like the way you think. good answer

I had 6 Maxijet 1200's in my 55g when it was its full glory!

My 120g has about 3000gph now!

You really can never have to much flow...IMHO of course!

Thanks again for all the replies. I installed a koralia #2 yesterday in my tank. You can really see everything moving now. I places it in the center of the tank so lets see how that does. They only had one, so I'll try that for a while and see how things turn out.

I have a 25 gallon and have been aquiring SPS frags for the past year... after reading this post I'm starting to question whether I have enough flow... hmmm...

rholguin, could I see a pic of your setup with the koralia..?? Wondering about the size... Thanks

Jester

Jester- The size of the pump is kind of big imo but the flow that you get is great. I certanly post a pic later on today.

I keep all of my pumps on 24/7. Alot of my SPS have huge PE at night so the flow helps them to do whatever corals do with their polyps.

I never liked the idea of having ANY type of reduced flow at night. Remember, it is at night after lights out that the pH starts to drop. Not really a good time to start reducing the flow/gas exchange, etc. JMO

the only reason i turn this one powerhead off is because its a tunze nanostream and i dont have a magnet holder for it, only 1 suction cup. for some reason every night it seems to swing around and starts blowing water out of 1 side of the tank.

They are extending their polyps for the same reaon other corals extend thiers...........to collect food.

Such a cool hobby to see this kind of stuff in our own homes. We are indeed very lucky.

I like this, too, lol! I added an external overflow becauase mine was just about overflowing. I have either a sequence hammerhead or barracuda (can't remember which at the moment) wide open on my 75. I think it's the one with 4300 or 4600 gph...

I'm thinking about cranking it down to lower the water level a little and adding some nano 6055s...

Seriously, though, I think flow is a lot like lighting. You'll find varying opinions, but generally speaking, for sps, more is better, just not directly aimed at corals.

rholguin, thanks for the pic... I'm debating on which one to order for my tank... I want to take out my two powerheads and either replace them with one or two of these powerheads...

I am running 3 nanostreem 6045s and 1 korelia 3, and 500 gph return. all adds up to about 4500gph in a 100 gal tank. I think I am a bit light on flow but my sand stays in place.... sort of

I second that!

I have a 54 gallon corner tank (bare bottom).

I am running 2 Seio 2600s & 2 Koralia #4s, plus my return pump from the sump........

doh i hate those type of answers, it'll be sps corals, like birdsnest and other relative ez corals

I have a Tunze 6025 modded and a Korilla #4 in my 30 cube. Also a Maxi-jet 1200. I'm going to ditch the 1200 for another Tunze or Korilla soon. Sps love it.
