How much flow is too much?

My little clownfish seems to struggle through the flow in my tank sometimes and I was just wondering how much flow would be too much, if that is possible.

Right now in my 90g I have 2x MaxiJet 1200s, my skimmer and my canister filter.. is that too much? maybe i have them angled wrong?

I thought that amount of flow was pretty good but right now its just a FOWLR so maybe I need less? There seems to be algae building up in the front where there is less flow so I added the 2nd MaxiJet and it has lowered it some, but is the additional worth it?

It would be very difficult to have to much flow. What you have listed is certainly not too much. Sometimes powerheads produce the wrong kind of flow, like a narrow jet pointed right at something, and might need to be diffused.

For a FOWL, I think your setup is ok. It would not hurt to get more powerheads, though. On my 75 G mixed reef, I have 4 powerheads, 2 returns and a canister filter (filled with carbon) supplying my flow. And I want more! If you are a bit adept at DIY, you can make a cool swirlerstein to get a decent amount of random flow with just 1-2 powerheads. BEtter yet, modify your maxijets into propellers. If you are not familar with these, the threads are in the DIY section.

Definantly now too much. On my 75g (same footprint, a few inches shorter) I used to have 3 1200s, a 900, and 2 600s plus my mag 7 return. I now have two tunze 6000's (1850 GPH each) plus my return.
