How much flow through sump?

I was thinking about using some of my economic stimulus check to setup a sump for my tank. (just trying to do my part to keep the economy going, lol)

I can't seem to find out how much flow I should have going through the sump. My tank is 20 gallons and the sump will be a 15 gallon long tank (but will probably only hold about 12 gallons).

I was thinking about 350 gph through sump. The sump is mainly there to house my heater, skimmer, and to add water volume.

I have a 30g with a 15g sump/fuge and I am running 300gph through it....seems to work great for nutrient export through skimmer/fuge.

I was thinking a Quiet One Pump 1200 for the return pump. It is rated at 296 gph at 0 FT and about 250 gph at 3 FT.

Thanks for the replies!

Mag drive pumps are much better. Sumps make all the difference in maintaining a reef tank. Go for it! See if you can move your skimmer down there too. Get rid of the uglies on the back of the tank!

Thanks down and outman.

I agree, I've heard much better things about the mag drive pumps. How about a Mag Drive 3 pump instead of the one listed above. Mag Drive 3 @ 3 FT = 300 gph.
