How much flow?

I am setting up a larger QT because I kill everything i put in the 20 gal QT. I have a 40 breeder that has 1 hole dilled in the back for a overflow. It has a 1" bulkhead and a 3/4" 90 degree elbow acting as the overflow. My question is what size return pump should i use? A 1" bulkhead is like 600 gph, but does the lack of an overflow box reduce the amount i should try to put through it. I will have an old 20 gal oceanic trickle filter as a sump.

just wondering why you are deciding to put a sump on it?

I'd just use the 40 and stick a maxijet 1200 at one end for flow....Throw a strip light on top......and throw in a few large PVC elbows.....maybe a HOB filter with a sponge to catch the floaties in the water.

I guess i could just cap the hole....it would be cheaper, I already have everything else i would need. I have a seaclone skimmer that i was going to put on it but i am missing the pieces to use it as a HOB so i was going to stick it in the sump....

I dont care what it looks like, as long as i can keep it stable enough for stuff to stay healthy/ get healthy.

Nick, I have a HOB filter you can have if you want it for this QT tank. You come an get it, it's yours. You'll have to clean it up a lot. It works just fine (when theres no sand stoppin it all up). Oh yea it rated for a 55g tank.
