How much GFO?

It's time to change my GFO. When I set it up, I just asked Lei how much to use and he gave me a bag full. Done.

But last night I bought a full container of it from him instead. It's the standard BRS GFO, not their high capacity.

Directions say 1 TBSP per 4 gallons. I have 250g, so that means 62.5 TBSP or 3.91 cups.

I'd say that's double what I used the first time. Should I stick with the original amount or just follow the directions? If I follow the directions, I'm not sure the small pump I'm using will work as well.

1 cup per 100 gaskins seems to work best for me BUT I think it depends on the amount of phosphate you are putting in. If you have issues go with 3 cups and watch your levels closely. If you are happy with your phosphate levels then go with 1-1.5 cups to maintain them and watch your levels closely. Adjust as needed.

I tested my phosphates this morning. API test says zero phosphates. I'm surprised by that. The last time I tested it was between .5 and 1ppm.

So, should I change the GFO yet? I has to have been 5-6 months since I started the reactor with this batch.

Have someone test with a different test just to verify your reading. If it is 0 then I'd say if it ain't broke don't fix it. Lol or just run the same amount as your curently running.

To see if the gfo is still viable check it from the discharge line then compare to the tank, if it's the same or close it needs to be changed.
