i am currently running 2x175W CV ReefLux 12K's and after thinking about adding a thirh halide above center brace, i was advised against it.
So i am wondering:
1.what kind of heat issues i will see
2.how much more elec./amp draw will it be?

would fans be able to take care of heat along with raising lamps from current 6" to 8"-12"?

Thanks for any help

Really there are so many variables involved that your only going to really know when you try.

Overall water volumne, canopy ( and now well it is ventalated ) vs. hanging fixture will also be key.

If currently durring the heat of the summer your not having significant heating issues ( ie: not reaching 84-86 for long periods ) then by adding 400W to the system ( and again just a general becuase you don't even state the water volume ) then you likely will be able to compensate for the additional heat. Again just speculation but, I would expect about 2-4 degrees difference if all else was equal from what you have now.

Electriciy shouldn't see any huge difference since on a small scale and not using several 400wers. Should be less than $10 providing it doesn't take significant other power to control the heat.

If your using a single circuit currently for your system, I would recommend adding a second one to run your lighting seperate from your other equipement.

-its a 120g display with a 50g sump(30-35 gallons in sump)
-my canopy is only 3 sided(no back or top)

-i am inquiring about replacing my 2x175W with 2x400W

do you have a standar fixture on your tank or a DIY cannopy? what kind of reflectors are you using?

If you currently don't have heat issues ( ie: not getting above 84-86 during the peak summer months ) , then likely would be able to compensate for the additional heat with fans and/or height or worst case be able to keep only a couple of degrees higher than currently.

thats a problem......this tank is only a few months set-up(transferred from my old 65g) and i have not had a summer with it yet.
