How much random flow are you guys getting out of your Streams?

I am thinking of adding a Stream 6000 with the controller to a 120 BB sps tank I am planning as an upgrade. This will be to add some random flow using the wave function. I am toying with the idea of mounting the stream between the overflows pointing at the front glass. This would be in addition to 2 penductors on a CL(GenX pcx 40) and the return(Iwaki40rlxt) split into 3 outlets pointing straight down in the 3 gaps between the overflows. My other option is adding a Sea Swirl between the overflows for a good bit of the return flow and thinking of something else for behind the rocks....definately not the two MJ 1200's I am using now, too hard to get to to clean.
thanks in advance for any advice/insight, Chris

Just one? I ahve 2 6100 with a 1800 gallon return pump on a 150 (4 foot) and still want more flow. JMO good luck though the Tunze's are worth every cent

I have 2 6100 streams with multi controller on my 120. I think they add alot of random flow. I think they work alot better than when I only had only one 6000 on a single controller.

Fishdoc, I have a 120 with 2 penductors and 2x6100 (set 30%-100%) The flow is good but not very random IMO. I am jealous everytime I see a wavebox :)

With Tunze Streams, my goal is really not to have random turbulence, but to induce an oscillation.

In my 155, I have two Streams on a multicontroller. I think they run on interval 2, where one pump is on for six minutes while the other is off, and vice versa. The effect is to induce a whirlpool, which rotates clockwise for six minutes, then counter-clockwise for six minutes.

In my 180, I have three Streams in sequential mode. This induces a surging flow on about a 90 second interval.

My 120 only has one Stream on a single controller, along with two eductors. The stream just pulses on a 6 second interval. Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢ve never been happy with the random turbulent flow in that tank. Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m thinking about getting another Stream and a multicontroller so I can set the two to oscillate back and forth, like the pair of Streams in my 155.

Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢ve found the oscillating currents to be much more effective in keeping detritus in suspension than random turbulence.

Thanks for the replies guys:)

So do you guys think a 1" Sea Swirl with ~950 gph through it would produce more "randomness"

Also how often do you have to clean the Streams? Especially the screen over the prop.

Chris

I clean the screens about once every three months, and the whole pump about once a year (or whenever it starts squealing at me). It only takes about a four-hour dip in a full-strength vinegar solution to get them clean.

The more often you can clean the screens the better. It makes a huge difference in the flow volume.

I have two 6100's w/ a 7095 m/controller. They are mounted on the back corners of the tank, and facing almost diagonally to the front ends. They are also well concealed behind/under some live rock, so nothing shows up.

There's still two more spaces on the m/controller to hook up more tunze's, but I don't know where to put them in the tank.

When I purchased my 6000 and multi controller the guy said I would be back for another 6000, I think he may be right, even on my small tank, so Im gonna hope to get it past the boss in one of those rocks.

Your right not very random, but it deffinately does go low to high etc, I can only tell by sticking my finger in front of it.
Maybe the High speed catches up with the slow speed???

i have a 180 w 2 6100 and a 90 w 6000. the 180 has random flow. i saw a coral get rocked back and forth, and didn't see it happen again for 2 days, then i saw it twice in 2 minutes. i might just move the 600o to the 180, the single tunze controller just isn't worht it imo. i would prefer 2 6000 in the 90, but then i would have to add another multicontroller. so a 500 bill to add one pump doesn't really entice me.

Thanks again for the feedback.

Anyone use 1" Sea Swirls with a bunch of flow(~950 gph) through them?

I have a 120 with 3 6100's and after watching a video of a few corals I can say I have it all. Random, choatic and lamier.

However I can't wait to see what I can do with 3 x6100's and 2x6200's a multi controller and 2 singles in my new 180 .

YA Tunze rules
