how much salt to mix

Ok so I'm tired of the guess work. Does anyone out there know how much reef crystals to add per gallon to get to 1.024-1.026. The bucket says 1/2 cup per gallon for 1.021 but after that I just kinda add a little, test, add a little, test, until it is right. I just want to do it one time and be done with it. Thanks.

My guess is it'll vary by salt, so you'll probably have to do some experimenting on your own. Shouldn't take too long for you to do really. Just make a gallon, and figure out exactly what you need to get it where you want. Then make two and double it, see if it works out.

Geez, I should do it, but I'm too lazy.

LOL, actually that's kinda the same thing here....besides that I just finished making some water and didn't think to do so until now when it's too late. hehe

I usually make 20 or 30 gallons at a time. When I make 20 gallons I add 11 overfull cups of salt and that usually gets me right at 35PPT(1.026)

I use 1/2 cup per gallon and it lands me right on 1.025 (Reef crystals)

I used a generous half-cup per gallon (when I used this salt). Not even what I'd call a heaping half cup--just not quite levelled off. IMO, much easier to go a little heavy on the salt--if the s.g. is a little too high, it is so easy to just add a little more RODI. Much easier than stir, mix, test, if the s.g. is too low. If you end up needing to dilute your original mix by adding more water, just siphon a little more out of your tank and put it all in. No harm in a slightly larger water change!

Good point on the diluting with water instead of waiting for more salt to dissolve...such easy answers that you just miss sometimes due to not looking at the whole picture.
