I am going to sand. I think bare bottom looks really really crappy. It looks like I am not even trying. How much sand do I need for my 100 gallon for a 4 inch substrait. I want to get it all in one stop. I am gona try to get that southdown stuff. Hope my clams dont die in the sand storm.

I have never bout sand before, how much does it cost. Will a 20 buy that or do I need more. I know this sounds silly, but the last time I was with someone to buy sand was in the early 80s when I was a child.

Hmmmm, well, here's the bad news. It will cost you about $20 for each 30 lb bag you by (assuming you will get CarribSea Agronite). So you're looking around $100.

You might try to find some southdown...I know others here have recently found some at HD, but it's pretty hard to come by these days. You can usually get that for under 10 bucks a bag.

Also, this site has a substrate calculator...just put in your dimensions of your system and it will tell you how much you need.

Good luck...

If you put your baserock down first, then fill in around it, you'll use a lot less sand. Keeps the rocks from getting destabilized by diggers too.
