how much space behind the tank do you need for your plumbing?

im thinking of getting a non reef ready tank so i can gain realestate inside the tank.

im just curious as to how much space i will need behind the tank for the plumbing. 4", 6", 8"???

I put external overflows on mine. They are 6 inches, but all that plumbing goes through the bottom. My closed loop I am hoping will fit within that 6 inches. That is my plan.

Mines 4.5" but i tryed to keep it as close as possible. I have around .5-1 inch and its tight. The more room the better but i dont have much room to spare.

Sorry. The tank is 72X30X24. Then I did the external overflows for the same reason...to gain real estate inside the tank. I am going to start plumbing next week.
