How much of an alk swing can cause problems for me? I ask because I had an issue today where my frag tank over flow clogged causing an overflow of about 20g loss of which about 10g was replaced by my ato. I use buffered ato although it is slightly lower alk due to also using a vinegar dose through top off. So I guesstimate the alk probly dropped about 1 dkh from where it normally is, maybe a little less. From about 9 to 8. I like it usually at 8 but it had been climbing the last couple months. Specific gravity only fell from 1025 to 1024.
I refrained from doing a water change because I did not want to swing back in another direction & make it worse. The tank its a little cloudy I think either from a bacteria bloom from the extra carbon, or from the sump running low, or both.
