How much was your Flame Angel?

I paid Ã"šÃ‚£38 for mine, which is cheap in the uk.
Usually i see them for Ã"šÃ‚£60-65 which converted ends up around the $120 mark.
I guess they do add lots of colour and activity to the tank:)

here in bankok they are 1000 - 1200 baht $25 - $30 dollars too.
but clowns (most species) cost$1-$5 never any more

$49.99 here at the LFS. but they over charge anyway LOL. they want $59.99 for a fire shrimp. the other LFS here and online there $25-$30. rippoffs!!

Im going to get a flame on sunday, so I thought tonight I would call a few places to see if they had them, and what they cost. I dont remember them costing as much as they said, two $60 and one $75. The price isnt going to stop me from buying one, and the one I think Im going to get the guy said was about 2 inches which sounds great. I was just wondering what other people paid and also about what size they were.
Thanks
P.S. Thoes frags are sure going to come in handy

Don't remember exactly, but mine was less than $40 when I bought it a few months ago.

I am in MN and paid $39 for mine.

Sorry. Linking to other reefing sites is not allowed.

Go to the TCMAS club in there and someone may have one they want to sell, that way your getting one from an established tank

"There are slight differences in both coloration and markings of this species based on the location of collection. Flames from the Marshall Islands are more red in color, with thicker black bars running vertically down the body. Flames from the Cook Islands are more orange in coloration with either small black bars, or only a few thin bars running vertically down the body. Christmas Island Flames are normally a red/orange coloration with thin black bars running vertically down the body. Flames from Tahiti are blood red and contain very little to no yellow."

Mine is a Marshall Island.

Forgot to mention I picked it up at the LFS and it was about 3" in length.

All flame angels I have seen locally are bright red with black and yellow stripes and purple edges, I never asked where they were collected since they all looked similar, but price varied from $30 up to $60, so it is a matter of one LFS having a better deal from the wholeseller or willing to make less profit. Where else can you find a healthy 2" powder blue for $35? Only if PBTs have consistent survival rate. And BTW that store also sells healthy Hawaii yellow tangs up to 3" for $15/ea. Haven't found anyone beating that price yet, local or online.

That store also often has at least one mystery wrasse on sale at any given time, I have seen price from $120 to $150, whereas at other LFS if you are lucky to see one, at least $250. I often wonder myself how they could do that.

Wow, thanks for all the posts, I will ask where they are from, and also some stores are getting in new shipments today so I will call and see what they have
Once more, thanks!

Hello
Mine cost $40.00 back in Sept. 2000, but it was a used fish!

haha, do new fish lose value like new cars? Thought it was funny you said it was used fish...maybe i've just been at work too long...

Ah... I got my Hawaiian flame for $115. At Blue Sierra in Issaquah, WA. I think I maybe paid a bit much, but man he looks GOOD! :D It was worth it, I would buy another one at that price any day. :)

Cheers

I want to say about 30-40 dollars. Like people have said earlier ...lots of color variation... be patient until you see a stunning looking one. It sucks when you jump the gun and then see one a month later that is much more vibrant.

normally every here in jersey is expensive, but i do see fluctuations. i dont buy livestock at Petcos, but i do purchase dry goods from time to time, and in various stores ive seen them from 60 all the way down to $24. it depends on the time of year and the location (the richer the area, the more expensive the fish). in most private fish stores they vary between $45 and $70 dollars, regardless of brightness and health.

My Hawaiian flame cost $0 + 15 minutes chasing him around the reef :D

In local shops, Christmas flames are $20-ish, while local ones can be twice as much. Expect to pay double that at most places in the mainland US (one step up in the food chain).

But really, you should just pay whatever you think an attractive, healthy fish is worth to you.

RGBMatt is correct. When you see the one... buy it. This hobby is bad for the $$$ in your accounts. I'm not saying don't try to be frugal (example ...get your dry goods online) but I've missed out a time or two contemplating the price of a fish,coral,ect... only to find that speciman is sold while I was somewhere else thinking it over. Like any other retail places, you'll learn who is overpriced and who is not. (and who seems to be expensive but has healthy livestock)
