How much would really die off?

Going to do a tank transfer.
Starting the new tank with natural seawater. Have all new packaged Caribsea live sand. Have all fully cured live rock (from an established tank)most of this rock has Zoas and mushrooms all over. Would the corals/ life on the rock die because of the new live sand?

Any tips2 advice I should be aware of?


Would the cycle of any most likely be minimal since I using nsw and established rock or could the new live sand I am adding cause some problems?


Going to wait to add fish, anemones and delicate corals until after about a week or so

I think you would have minimal if any issues, Just minimize the amount of time the rock is out of the tank.

Somebody I know, lets go with that, managed to knock over a bucket or two of water while doing a transfer. So I would suggest having some extra water on hand. Good luck.

I have done it and just crossed my fingers. Rinse your sand well; and keep the fish in a tub until the water clears and settles. YOu should get by ok, but keep a bottle of Prime handy.

Would you recommend rinsing the live sand even though it is brand new?

no i wouldnt rinse the live sand.

i changed tanks, even took the sand out of my old tank since it was only 3 months old. nothing died off, tank didn't go though cycle again. so you should be fine just make sure to match temp of new water to old water

And any harm in adding all the new live sand now and a few pieces of live rock and then keeping adding more and more over the week? Is it better to do it all at once or it really doesn't matter either way?

And pretty sure it doesn't make a difference, but just in case it's naute's ocean live sand not Carib sea *

i took down a 29 gallon tank and put up a 57 gallon tank. i took the water, sand, fish, corals rocks from 29 and added it to the 57 with new saltwater , new live rock and more live sand, everything was ok and lived all at once
