How much would you say this is worth?

225 gallon acrylic tank 60 inches long, 30.5 inches deep. Dual overflow boxes, metal stand, two fiberglass sump/fuge tanks.
Aquarium is really heavy duty acrylic. I'm trying to see if I can get a deal on it.

I'm by no means an expert on things like that, but I would think that if you can get that setup for $500 it's a deal. It's up to you as to how much you want to spend though.

I can get it for $650. It was a custom built tank that was built into someone's wall. He died, and his widow is selling the tank. She's even throwing in the sand.

$650 doesn't seem unreasonable to me. If you're comfortable with the price, and the setup is what you're after, then go for it.

define "heavy duty", how thick is it?

is it scratched at all?

is the stand rusted? what kind of protection is on it to keep it from rusting.

thatd be what Id look at. assuming the size fits your room and your needs, and the above questions are all answered right, 650 sounds darn cheap for it. tank would be an easy 1000-1500 new. stand probably another 300.

I had a 135gallon acrylic corner that I sold for $350 if that helps.

It's half inch acylic. No rust on the stand, and it looks to be powdercoated. The overflows are built-on side-mounted external boxes. It's a non-standard shape/size, so the stand was also custom made.

i paid 450 for my 100 gallon acrylic tank and stand. but im paying 2ce over now, as i didnt realize the stand wasnt black in the picture the seller had, and there were 1000's of scratches in the tank(tank was wrapped up when i got it)

its costing me 13$ a square foot to get the tank scratches out. about 200$, for just the inside front and side panels.

make sure there are minimal scratches, but besides that seems like a good deal.

1/2" is not "heavy duty" when the tank is 30" deep. I would consider it less then optimal.

he may mean deep front to back. 1/2" acrylic at 30" tall would either have an extreme bow or would have broken or crazed.

if he did mean front to back, it would still leave the height around 28" for that volume of water. which is basicly same difference and back to 1/2" is rather thin for it.

I could be wrong on the thickness. I didn't measure it, but I know it's at least that thick. It was custom made by a company that has been making tanks for about 20 years, so if it should be thicker at that size, it probably is. I'm supposed to go look at it again today. It's about 15 miles from my house.


I just called the guy at the shop. It's 3/4" acrylic.

ah, all the difference in the world. if its more or less scratch free(or atleast your ok with it), and fits your room, as they say, its worth as much as your willing to pay.

Too cool! I was worried about what I'd use for a sump on this tank at first. I didn't want to use my 75g because I have an African Cichlid project I want to do with it. When I went down to pay for the 225g, he asked if I wanted the two containers he said came with it. When I saw them, I went woah! They're two really heavy 60-70 gallon polyurethane bins that are already drilled with PVC fittings. They're about 40 inches tall. I can use one for each overflow. I'm gonna have to buy a couple of pool pumps to run them though. I guess the construction begins! This is exciting.

I build websites, so I'm gonna offer to barter for some coral pieces once everything is up and running.
