How often do you change your sediment filter?

Hey all,

Im curious how often you guys change your sediment filter? I have some real crappy water in McHenry, i just setup my 5stage filter and it says to change it when "it looks dirty" well when is that? :spin2: mine looks like a rust color day 1.

Any opinions and i thank you

David

I get a mix of well & river water & I change mine every 6 months, but I have a whole house filter set up 2, those I change monthly, after 1 month there blood red
with the well water there's a lot of Co2 in the water & I tear thru DI's pretty fast , I get about 600 gallons before I replace them

Thanks guys. Ill watch the tds, just amazed after filling 50gallons into my drum my sediment filter is a rust color. More or less looks like a blue moon in a glass :D

i dont think the sediment filter affects the tds. it would lower the pressure of membrane as the filter clogs. i think it would more effect the production. now the carbon block adsorbs chlorine and chloramines, and that protects the membrane over time.

Even better I was worried I would have to change it every few weeks!

Changing the prefilter and carbon may drop a little TDS like maybe 20% of TDS like skunkmeyer said, just an increase in water flow

Exactly if you are in single digits on your TDS and you change em out a drop of two tds in 20% on product side. Thats what I usually see

one thing to note, for those of you that have to change your sediment so often, I have my RO/DI hooked up so it's "after" the water softener, so it extends the life of my filters.

Yea. Hard water clogs the the membrane. Im thinking of running a acid through my membrane one day to clean it up.

Your prefilters (typically a sediment filter and a carbon block) don't remove TDS. TDS is removed for the most part by the membrane, and by the DI resin as well.
