how often do you feed your BTA?

I've had my rbta for 2 years and never feed it. I just dose DT phytoplankton every other day.

You didn't say how big your tank is. You can feed if you want but feeding bta's will only make them grow faster, and trust me, they will.

I have a reef tank with LPS, SPS, SPF, clams, inverts, the works. My maroon clowns are very protective of their bta making it necessary to move things around which is a real pain. Anything thing they consider too close to the bta is subject to a whopin'. The clowns were attacking my gold maxima clam, monti anenome, feather duster, etc...

mine has trippled it size in about a month from feeding every mon, wed and fri, besides whatever it gets when i feed fish, and whatever maroon clown gives it.

I read in Coral Magazine a while back that studies of the gut contents of anemones show they are planktonic feeders and do better with smaller foods. Some breeders of rbta's feed one Formula 1 cube each week. The Formula 1 cubes do break into a fine mush when thawed. I lived overseas for 11 years and had the opportunity to dive in the Rea Sea on weekends. I spent a lot of time observing clownfish and anemones, and I never saw evidence of the anemones eating large food items. Most of these were Heteractis magnifica anemones.

To answer the original question, I feed LiquidLife's Marine Plankton two or three times a week. I also give each anemone a Formula 1 cube once a week. My maroon clown takes various food items into the anemones. I think she would feed me to the anemones if she could.

You know, someone brought up in a similar thread that the clowns may not actually be "feeding" the anemone, but just bringing the food into the anemone to keep it safe so they can eat it later. I could certainly see this, since although my clown takes food into the anemone, it seems like she makes an effort to keep it from getting too close to the mouth, especially the larger pieces.
