How often do you feed?

I am just curious how often you all feed your fish. I have 2 clown's, a damsel, and a tang. and average once every 2-3 days. Just curious if this is enough or not.

tangs are constant grazers --they need something in the tank daily.

I feed my fish twice a day but not a large amount--a few small feedings are better then one big feeding

if im home, its many small feedings over the course of hours while sitting in front of the tank contently watching. but thats when i have the time. normally w/ work and all, 2 smaller feedings a day.

if im not going to be home, i have a tang as well, i put a seaweed clip in.

my mandarin gets by on the pods in the tank, and a few times a week fedding on Slecon soaked brine shrimp.

the other 2, the clown and royal Gramma are on there own but do very well.

when I put in flakes/brine shrimp. Everything in my tank goes crazy and eats. I want my tang and lawnmower blenny to keep eating the stuff growing on the rock, instead of getting used to flakes etc. Is it bad I only feed once every 2-3 days?

over time uneaten food can turn to nitrates and phosphates fueling alage and cyano blooms. You are better to feed more often but less at one time so it is all consumed.

nope your tang and lawnmower will continue to graze..tangs burn lots of energy and they need to refuel all the time...

i feed at least 3 times a day morning (shortly after lights on) noon and then evening (shortly before lights out)... basicly if i feed myself i feed my fish

I feed twice daily. I usually keep a sheet of seaweed on a clip for the tangs to munch on.

I feed 4 times a day (formula two pellets 3 X on automatic feeder and frozen mysis at night). I'm starting to worry that I'm feeding too much after reading the responses. My nitrates are undectectable and I don't have too much nuisance algae. Anyone think I should decrease my feedings?

As long as the food is being consumed and it's not causing any problems then I wouldn't change anything.

I agree--usually the sign of overfeeding is the development of nuisance algae and cyano in the spots of low flow where the uneaten food is changed to phosphates and nitrates

I only feed my anthais twice a day even though they recommend more but about half my feedings are mysis shrimp--the only thing my copper banded butterfly fish will eat.
