what type of seahorse need to be fed the least? i have read of people feeding 5 times a day. i was hoping to find one that i can get away with once a day feeding? also are clams safe with them? i was planning on adding them to my clam tank, 7 crocea and 3 maxima clams and 500 pounds of live rock
thanks jeff

There are various threads on RC about clams closing on/killing fish. Imagine what would happen as a seahorse tried to hitch on a clam or if the seahorse were to drag it's tail over a clam while on a hunt for food. I know of more than one instance where a clam closed on a seahorse tail. Not pretty at all.

ok then looks like they will have to go in the leather coral tank, which is the best for feeding then?

The CB seahorses available from various breeders are all trained to eat frozen mysis shrimp. Hikari or PE Mysis are the two most commonly used.

I normally feed mine twice a day. However, if I'm pressed for time or get home from work late it doesn't seem to pose a problem getting fed once a day occassionally.

Gotta remember seahorses have no stomachs like most other fish. That's why they need to be fed more often.

They will eat pods in a pinch. Ghost shrimp would be better, for larger horses at least. In nature they eat small shrimp, mysid, ghost, etc. I have two peppermints in my seahorse tank and my horses love when they spawn, fresh live food. :D

They would be fine in a leather tank, absolutely not with clams. I can tell you they love colt corals. Actually seem to caress it while hitched.

We also feed twice a day.
