ok so im new to small clowns... i bought two small false percs a little over two months ago. they were about 1 in. well its been two months and they still kinda keep to themselves and hang out with the other fish... i'd say they are a little under and inch and a half now. i was wondering if they are just still to young, or if maybe they just wont pair? i have been ready all i can the past few months and cant find anything about when they pair if they are raised together... thanks for any advice!!!

Just wait. I bought a bonded pair (not paired... just bonded... like boyfriend-girlfriend) Black Ocellaris... they were about 8 months-12 months old when I bought them and now they are 24 months or so. They are just starting to form a real pair bond because one is starting to get bigger. How big is your tank? If it is huge (100g+) your clowns may be having a hard time finding each other and hanging out, but if they are in a smaller tank (40g or less) then they should start fighting for dominance any time now. But trust me, if you are aiming for a pair, they will definitely be a pair by the age of two-three... Just watch and wait! ;)

Because false percs get thier stripes much younger then true percs, they get sold much younger. I dont raise or breed O's. I would guess the mature slightly faster then true percs also. I would bet on seeing pairing behavior from about 10months on.

If I remeber right O's can go to market about 4-6 months so add 2 for in you tank figure on 2 more moths till you see serious pairing. I have also heard of people getting O's to spawn in under 1year so depending on condition you could seee it sooner.

Maybe a breeder could chime in.

they are in one of our 55 gallons... just figured since they were so small they were too young. but couldnt find and reading on when they pair.

They are probably still both juveniles. I'd say that yours will become a bonded pair at the age of 1 year and will become a real pair at about 2 years. There is almost a 100% chance they won't mate before they are around 24 months old.
