How old were you when you started reefing?

Just a poll for a newbie. Every once in awhile I begin to think I'm to old to start this. You know will I ever figure it out. I bought paint yesterday for my tank, got the wrong kind.

My dad is 55 and he just started into the hobby last year. I, on the other hand, am only 17. I don't think you can ever be too old as long as the interest is there and you're not doing it for the wrong reasons.

I am only 21, however I think it would be easier to be in this hobby if I were older because I would have more time and money. I don't think it matters how old a person is as long as they are committed to being a responsible reef keeper. Do your research and have an excess of patience.

I was lucky I got to learn from my dads mistakes when I was younger. I waited until I had money and time. Then just jumped in with both feet. Im 31 now, was 14 when dad started.

Hahah, i started at 24, but my father got hooked at the same time, and i'm helping him put one in his house right now. hes 56 this weekend.

15 years, too young for a reef
Agreed. I got addicted when I went into my local lfs and saw all the sw fish (looking for nice swordtails for my tank, of course). I was 16 at the time, now I'm a few months from 18 and I've already spent $2500 or so on my tank. I've managed to sucker my dad into buying some stuff (because he's gotten really into it, too, and wants the best for our fish and corals).

I wish I had waited, oh... 15 years or so until I could afford to start with a 240G with vortechs and mh+t5 supp (of course, we'll have better equipment by then...) and fill up my tank with rare, beautiful fish...

I was 23. Funny thing, didn't have much exposure to the aquarium hobby until a girlfriend wanted an Oscar. We were breeding them two years later. :) Every visit to the LFS had me itching for a saltwater tank. We finally broke down and started a tank. Money was tight, we got some really bad advise from some stores and it didn't last. When my money situation changed, I was right back in and have been since. I'm going to turn 40 this summer. :D

13 When started and now i'm almost 15. I was started because I was checking out an LFS when me and my dad came across the blue spot stingray. The reef was built a few months later.

Yeah I'm 16 now and I regret attempting to run into this hobby too fast, but I am still very glad I got into it in the first place.

hello, well i started at 39 and now i am 40 so that makes me ohhh, uhhh, hmmmm, 1 year in the hobby, but an intense year, lol

I was 31. I'm 34 now and wil probably go until I can't lift a bucket of water anymore

Same here. I just had a kid so I could have some help with maintenance when I'm an old fogie, because I'll probably still have a tank then.
