a stalk of xenia has attached itself next to one of my zoas. How harmful is this to both of them?

TIA,
Jamie

do you mean from blocking the light/catching food? If I wanted to remove it, can I just cut the stalk? Or will this release toxins into the water?

just cut it, it will release slime with is toxic, but just run carbon, i have been fragging xenia for some time now and everything in tank is ok, so dont worry

Cut it ,rip it , tear it. I find that a tooth pic works well to get under it and removeing it from the base.Better yet remove the whole rock and scrape them off for good.

if not careful when removing it
then it will just grow back... have found that carefully pulling the xenia off a rock usually gets most of it off the rock and preventing it from growing back

regards

xenia reminds me of bad weeds in that if you leave any trace of it you will see it come back. It's best to take the rock out of the tank if you can when removing so you don't get fragments floating around starting new colonies all over the place.
