i have had maximas grow as much as a 1/2" a month it all dpends on your water parameters i think and maintaining your calcium and alk at he right levels.

the most i have personally gotten is 4" in a year, but i have heard stories of maximas reaching 8-9" in a single year.

I've heard stories of an old fat guy with flying reindeer too. :D
...8-9" in a single year for a T. maxima? Hmmm....

1/2" to 1 1/2" every 4-6 months is what I have seen, depending on the size of the maxima.

what is the biggest maxima you have seen? i have seen some that are 14-15" that were farm raised and were over 15 years old.

I didn't think Maximas could get this big ... only the Gigas and Deresas ... ?

Gigas can get as large as 10' and beyond, Deresas can grow to about 18-21" and Maximas top out at about 15"

Wow ... that's amazing! I was thinking about picking up a Giga but it seems like if I do I'll need a 300g tank solely to support it! How fast do they grow? LFS has a tiny one ...

they are the fastest growing clams of all the tridacnas, i have a baby in my tank that i just picked up a few weeks ago and and it has grown about 1" already.
