How rare is this?

On a scale of one to ten how rare are pink hammers? I have the opportunity to buy a baseball size pink hammer that opens up to the size of a softball for $40. Is it worth buying?

Rarity means nothing. If you like it.. buy it.. yes, that's a good price.

I'm not so much concerned with owning a rare coral as I am with taking up valuable real estate in my tank lol. My tabk is crowded until I get my upgrade completed. I was just curious to see how often the pink hammers show up so I can justify buying it now or wait until later

Pretty much like with any of the colored hammers, I'd suggest you have enough blue light (actinics, LED, whatever) to make sure the pink color pops. Otherwise it might be somewhat muted.

I run a 4 bulb T5HO fixture on my 55 with this as my bulb combo:

UVL 454 actinic
UVL 10,000k
UVL 454 actinic
UVL 75.25 (12,000k equivalent)

I may try switching the 10k for a UVL super actinic r just to give me a wider range actinic

Green base with pink tips hammers aren't that rare, but the price is great. If you like them get them, rarity is abstract in this hobby.

It's not the typical green base. It has pink tips with an almost orange base.

Here is a picture of one that looks like the one Im interested in. It is not the same coral but visual looks the same color

+1 on the uvl super actinic. I am veryy happy with mine. I really like the uvl bulbs in general.

My personal rule with corals is ...if I like it, BUY IT, NOW!... unlike most fish, corals are usually more of a 'one off'...you may find something similar, maybe even better, but maybe not. If it's nice, and healthy, you can always trade or sell it.

I got a pink hammer for $40 so yeah I'd say that's a good deal. Mine doesn't look like that though, it's a bit different in shape. Mine is still a frag but it is the only coral that doesn't glow under the moonlights but looks amazing under blue+, purple+ and aquablue lights during the day.

Are you sure it won't sting anything when the sweepers come out at night? Might turn out to be a pretty expensive hammer if it nukes a couple of things
