How reef-safe are tailspot blennies?

i just ordered a tailspot off of DD. ive heard stories of them nipping SPS, so i want to be careful.

I don't think I ever heard those stories. My tailspot blenny is a perfect reef fish with zero nipping. [emoji817]

ok thanks. how big is yours and what kind of tank do you have? my tank is a 36 gallon LPS and zoanthid dominated.

85g reef mainly sps and zoas but also a few lps.

TSB he's around 2"
Cool fish.

I also dig gobbies and have a Neon, Greenbanded, and Yasha.

I just recently got a red spotted Blenny in my 25 gallon Aquapod. He does nip a little at the frag bases, rocks, and the back of the tank, but he has not harmed my corals at all. I have zoas, torch, frogspwan, hammer, and anemones
The Blenny is about 2 inches long

I wouldn't worry. Ive seen yellow & purple tangs eat acans, a sailfin tang that ate clams, chromis that nipped acros and of course countless clowns harass LPS to death. I'd honestly be shocked if he posed a problem. Good luck :fish1:

Same here. I've had mine for almost 2 years and I've never seen him take any interest in any of my corals. I have mostly SPS with a few LPS frags (mostly Euphyllia sp.) My TSB is about 2.5"

well, it just came in the mail today. i got him (or her) into my QT. there were definitely stress lines on him. he is tiny, at about 1.5 inches

I have a tailspot pair. One of them picks at my monti, flowerpot, and a couple acros, not all but a couple. Feeding a couple times a day stop this, but sometimes I get home late.

That's normal for them to show stress coloration for the first couple of days. Make sure you have a few pieces of PVC for him to hide in. I've found that smaller diameter pieces give them a better sense of security.

it is a 10 gallon QT with 2 pieces of 1.5" PVC and a sponge filter. i have the tank covered. when could i turn the lights on?

I usually leave lights off the day of arrival, then put the lights on a schedule starting the following day.
