how reefsafe is a radiant wrasse? experiences?

i've read that these guys are reef safe and may even pick on parasites. i personally have pyramidellid snails and am trying to get rid of them and understand the radiant wrasse may eat them.

any experiences with this fish would be helpfull.

well i guess they aren't pyramidellid snails but tube snails. anyways, still looking for experiences

I was looking to get one as they are an awesome looking wrasse but after some research I decided against it. They are a gamble much like hawk fish in that they tend to eat small shrimps and some snails. My girlfriend loves my cleaner shrimps and if they get eaten I will have to hear her crap so I decided its best not to get one

Are you talking about the puddingwife, Halichoeres radiatus? They are a rather large wrasse species that feasts on a wide variety of benthic invertebrates. Corals aren't usually considered on the menu, though, but just about everything else is (i.e. shrimp, starfish, urchins, crabs, etc)

I have a radiant in my 150g reef and he is a great fish. Never picked on my cleaner shrimp and they were added after him. He has been a great fish and has never given me any trouble. I would highly reccomend one.

I've never heard of a Halicoeres Iridis eating small ornamental shrimp.

Mine certainly didnt.

Mine is in my FOWLER, but I assure you they won't eat shrimp...They are very peaceful fish .

Great fish. I had one but he went carpet surfing. Seemed fine with my cleaner shrimp.

I've had one for a year. He does not bother anything, but loves ghost shrimp!

I have never heard of Halichoeres iridis being called a 'radiant wrasse'. I wonder where they got that name? Besides, 'iridis' describes the 'iris like' spot behind the eye--has nothing to do with 'radiance'. This species is usually safer with smaller shrimp, etc. However, there is always some risk involved, as they are individuals in regards to behavior.

I've been waiting for my larger tank setup to get one of these. I think they're much more unique than some of the other wrasse, and they look great!
