How should I frag my colt coral?

How might I go about doing this if I'm not sure if it has attached to the main rock work? If it has then how should I frag it?

Simple: scalple. cut and sew onto new piece of rock. I fount a different method. Take cotton and tie around branch you want to frag. Tie a loop which can be tightened. tighten this loop slowly and leave the cotton in place. This helps to seal up the wound in mother colony. Sew frag into place.
NB make sure water is of utmost quality

Should I worry about the substance that is emitted when coral is cut or can I just let it be filtered out of the system via filtration?

Depends on the cora... It would be a good idea to do a water change, and set your skimmer to its wetest setting. Not much else you can do.

Take it out of the water before you start hacking away at it if you can. when they get ****ed off the will really start to slime and it gets kinda messy.

I just whack off and entire stalk as close to the base as possible, the base will melt away in a week or less of sometimes regerate if a small finger is left. I then place the frag in the fuge wuththe cut side in the sandbed on over a piece of LR rubble. I've never had much luck using toothpicks, super glue, or rubber bands. The colt will shrivel up for a few days then start attaching to whatever it can get ahold of. After a week in the fuge the frag is ready to be traded off. when it attaches to sand, rubble, or base rock hunks it's easy to attach to existing tank structures using superglue alone.

There is a good description in Coral magazine on how to frag a colt. They recommend placing it up near a new piece of rock and tieing it off. They said not to cut it but to let it frag naturally. The article said these corals don't do well when cut and get infected easily.

Ok, I tried fragging my colt coral and the only problem I had was attaching to the rock. I put the toothpick through the frag and rubberbanded the toothpick to the rock. The next day the frag was gone, but the rock, rubberbands, and toothpick were still there. I found the frag under a rock at the bottom of my tank. What should I do next time?
