i have a pair of reefsun pendants that i have laying around and i was wondering if i were to just lay them on top of my tank would that be a terrible idea?i dont want to drill the ceiling because im renting and then landlords arent gonna be to happy with holes in the ceiling.would the pendants heat up the trim of the tank to much?would there be an electrial issue with the lights on top of the trim?would the whole thing explode?:eek2: well it may not explode but im worried to try this.let me hear your opinions

Might explode if exposed to splashing water, would heat the water in the tank to disastrous levels, may melt the top of the tank/trim espesially if it's acrylic, could result in electric current in tank or in you if grounded and has water on/in it.

I once layed a 75 watt spot light on an angle between an Hang on Tank filter and a strip light, two hours later the tank's temperature went up 3 degrees and the top of the filter melted like a candle.

Now, multiply that heat times 10, and that's what will happen. If you do give it a try...take pictures.

I like the experimental thinking though

Why dont you DIY something to hang them from? I've seen people use a shepards hook used for hanging plants. You just have to find a way to attach to your stand.

I used gas pipe nipples and elbows from Home Depot. They sell a round mounting flange that you can attach to an open top canopy and just screw the pipe into. I just built a square arch assembly to hang my pendant from. You could always build feet and use longer pipe lengths off the floor if you don't have a canopy top. FWIW!

Really simple, PVC piping or electrical piping. Make it go around the base of the stand and send 4 corner poles up above the tank, a foot above where you want to hang the pendants, send tubing across, and you have yourself something to hang your pendants from that can be taken down easily.
