How tenacious is aiptasia ?

A couple of weeks ago I saw an aiptasia anemone on a frag rock. Since it was the only aiptasia in the tank (not bragging, just stating the facts) I felt it had to be eliminated. After a water change I pulled the rock and chipped off the aiptasia into the old water change water. Two weeks later with no light or flow the water is getting disgusting but the aiptasia is alive and well. I'll update the health of said aiptasia until it expires, if it ever does.

I personally do not care for them but, I have seen some tanks that have some big ones and look good. I had a hard time with them and they will survive lots. keep us up dated with your anemone.

I left one on a rock in a plastic bowl and he made it for about 12 days. But I'm in Michigan and the water got faily cold w/o a heater. He may make it longer in FL.

I hit the ones I imported from a fellow reefer with Joe's juice via plastic syringe and so far the ones I nailed in the root of the stem with Joe's juice look dead but we will see its been 24 hours though will update with in the next 48hrs.

One of the problems with killing them is that as soon as they feel threatened they release their eggs. A little tip I learned from a friend is if you're gonna squirt 'em with Joe's Juice or Aiptasia X, make sure and squirt around the tentacles first to try and kill the eggs before they manage to get them out.

I have had two little ones on one rock for a very long time. I don't know if they don't spread because I don't mess with them, or my peppermint shrimp keep new ones in check..

Inmortal Aiptasias

Inmortal Aiptasias

After the 8.8 earthquake here in Chile I lost my 100 gallon reef to the power outage. Everything was dead, and after several days I brushed the rock clean. The smell was awful. Not even a pod survived. Then I put again salt water, and I started the pumps with no lights for about six weeks. Then, I started again, and I get some live rock from a friend. Before getting it inside the tank I did a quick inspection, and I found several living aiptasias, the only life that remained in the tank. So there you have an answer. After everything will be wiped out from the face of the earth, there will be aiptasias to colonize this world again. Try to beat that one.

If you see one, there are others.

How tenacious is aiptasia?

At the dawn of time the Unclean One raised his tattered claws and screamed, as the Tormented scattered in its wake of pure evil . . .

The souls of the righteous quaked and cried, as the pain of the darkness came forth to dominate all who stood it the light,

And the just and unjust alike were paralyzed with fear, as the Great Unbidding had arisen, and unleashed . . . .

you guessed it, Aiptasia.

Or maybe its Bryopsis. I get confused.

Had few live about a month in a bucket of old water change water. No light, no circulation, just aiptasia :eek1: Finally tossed the water because I needed the bucket :D

If we could combine our DNA with theirs , lose a leg no problem now I have a clone . Its just the beginning !

Nice and Creative. ;)

Three weeks yesterday and the aiptasia is hanging on. Specific gravity 1.025 (minimal evap because their's a lid on the bucket) and water temp of 89 F degrees. Garage gets hotter than outside temps when we park two cars in the garage after work. Temps have varied from 65 F to todays 89 F.

No match for a copperband butterfly,it will have no chance of hiding from the sharp snout like a syringe.
