I wouldn't go much past hand turn and 1/2 just to ensure I don the break the glass. If that isnt working maybe try using some channel locks to slightly tighten.
LOL - so I thought of the answer to this issue right after I posted. I can't do 'finger tight' right now because my hands are a bit weak at the moment. I tried and they leaked like a sieve and moved around. My neighbor came over and hand tightened them for me.
+1^ make sure glass is clean all you need is a little squish on the rubber likr an oil filter on your car. Rubber on the water side and only turn the nut
Also, because I made this same mistake, be VERY CAREFUL moving or touching the plumbing dwn the road if it is not fixed down. My plumbing extended straight down into my sump with a valve on it, while I was turning the connection to tighten the valve on it turned the bulkhead and caused a leak.
So... Just be sure you don't apply any more twisting force on it once its 'set' and settled.
