How to Acclimatize Leather?

lol acclimatize? Good word ;)

I just drip acclimate all my leathers (and corals in general) for about an hour or so...sometimes more or less depending on type of coral. I use one of those drip acclimator things that drsfostersmith.com sells..it was 5 bucks i think...overpriced? ya definately since there's 2 parts that cost less than 2 bucks each.

i do the drip method too...i just use a piece of old air vinyl air line though and tie a loose not in it, suck on it till i get a siphon and tighten the knot until it is a continuous drip...

i usually only try to accilmate for about 45 minutes though...unless you can put the acclimating vessel into the tank water, then i go longer...the reason for 45 min or less is that i find the temperature of the pail gernellay drops quickly when out of the tank water..and i dont want the poor little guys to get cold..

I have about four leathers in my tank, all happy. I just float the bag for say 20 minutes, then I add a portion of tank water to the bag and float for another 20 minutes or so. The portion of tank water is probably about 30% or so of the total volume of the bag water. Haven't had any problems, but as stated in another response, my stuff is all local.

I just flat the bag in my tank, keeps the temperature stable and every few 5 - 10 minutes mix some of my tank water with it, I usally do this for about half an hour.

I float them too!
I tried the drip method before but if your room is cold they can get quite a chill before the drip is done

My LFS, a good one actually, recommended only temp acclimation on leathers. So, since then, I float them for 15 mins and drop them. Never had a problem.

Same here, I just float them and add them to the tank. Ive done that with all the coral with no problems. They always open in a few min to an hour and look happy.

I’ve run into the same problems (water getting cold while drip acclimating), but tried something this weekend which worked really well. I call it the “double boiler method” (I’m sure I’m not the first person to use it…)

I put my acclimation bucket in a larger Tupperware tub filled with warm tap water. Added a cup of hot water ever 30 minutes or so to maintain the tap water temperature (used a thermometer to make sure things didn’t get too warm). Worked great, just be careful not to mix the two!
