How to add more sand?

I have a 2.5 year old 120 gallon mixed reef with approximately 3" of CaribSea Seaflor Special Grade Reef Sand. Some areas are getting a little shallow and I would like to fill them in. How would you go about adding more sand?

Would you siphon off a small top layer and then replace with even more sand?

Just add a little on top in stages?

Or just simply add an inch on top of the existing bed without any other precautions?

You should be able to add up to an inch on top of what you have now without disrupting the existing sandbed.

To add the sand you could use a piece of pve pipe or plastic tubing and a funnel.

Yeah, I am not concerned with causing a sand storm, just what effect I will have on the sand below.

you just want to add a small bit over time, like a 1/4 to 1/2 at a time. You don't want to smother the life that you are covering with new sand to quickly
