Check it out on our YouTube channel or on our blog where we've embedded it with one of our staffer's first impressions of the skimmer.

It's the 150 model if I'm not mistaken.

I have the 150 and it's a good sized skimmer. Haven't had a chance to use it yet as I'm still setting up my system though...

110 or 150?

110 or 150?

Which model was that skimmer on the video? It is a lot larger than I thought it will be.

sneeyatch is correct, moondoggy4. It is the larger Reef Octopus Classic 150 Space Saver Protein Skimmer. Thanks for watching! Our staff really liked the skimmer.

well, a few months after the original post. Let see if anyone is still watching. :) I just got the 110 and the video helped in getting it setup. However, there is one part that is either different between the two or has changed since the video was made. The silencer on my unit has 2 smaller hoses unlike the single tube shown in the video. How is the airline suppose to be connected to that? Or does it even connect? I have the hose lose right now and it is really quiet. It's not generating a lot of bubbles, but that could be because it is in tab water right now for testing.

We are happy to help! Go ahead and send us some photos of the silencer parts in question and we can help guide you through. customercare@marinedepot.com or just reply in this thread.

Protein skimmers will not function properly in freshwater and this is the reason you are not seeing foam production. Once the skimmer is placed in saltwater, you will see much more foam production. The skimmer will still need to break in once you place it in saltwater as well.

Take care and we look forward to hearing back from you.

Here is an drawing of the 110. Noticed in the adjusting pipe, there are two hoses that are both smaller in diameter than the inside of the air intake tube. In the video, there was only a single tube that was placed into the air intake tube.

Thanks so much for the photo and I can understand the confusion. I just went and double checked one of the skimmers in our warehouse as well.

The air hose can actually just sit inside the outlet pipe and should be quiet enough and function just fine. If you wish to attach it, the hose will fit over both of the small tubes which is what I believe is the intended installation.

I just have it sitting in the tube and it is silent. To be honest, I would think attaching it in either case would defeat the silencer as it would give the sound a direct route out.

But would be nice if the manufacturer would provide actual assembly instructions so we don't have to do this guessing.

Agreed, I think it will run quieter with the tube just laying inside the pipe.

Let us know how it works out for you!
