How to capture fish without net?

I read the tank transfer method is best to use a container or tuperware instead of a net to get the fish... how do I use a container and not transfer the water to the new tank for the TT method?

I can drill holes in the container but still might get some residual water in the new tank?

You could pick up a cheap hang on acrylic box like the fish stores use. I got a large one for ten bucks last week at my lfs. Drill a couple holes in the bottom. I use mine for acclimation and dips but it's awesome for catching them too since they can't really see it underwater and you can gently coax them into it.

I use a Reef Gently AccliMate. I remove tank furniture, then set it on the bottom. If the fish don't swim in on their own, I use a net to herd them in.

It has a perforated container on the inside, so I just lift that out and plop them into the new tank.

If your drilling plastic just make sure you don't leave any sharp edges. For ttm, Its not horrible to get a small bit of water in the transfer. Generally ich will cyst on a hard surface asap after leaving the fish. That's why you do 4 transfers instead of 2. theoretically if there were no error 2 transfers would be all you need.

So I actually use the nice smooth plastic deli containers, and they work perfectly. I use my hand to keep the fish in the container, and pour out the water. Then I just slide the fish right into the new tank, (or garbage can in my case).
