How to connect an Eheim 1250?

Hello Everyone,

Long time Lurker here, (since July 05). I have been doing a lot of research on starting a reef tank during this time, as well as saving up the money to get started. I recently ordered about half the equipment and would like to get started setting it up. The tank i have was a used display tank from one of the local fish stores here and is a 15L custom made oceanic with a hole drilled for a 1" bulkhead in the upper left corner. At first i was just going to seal the hole and go with submersibles, but in the end decided that a closed loop would be the best decision.

However, I have 0 experiance with plumbing and was hoping for some help in this department. From what i understand its good to have the pump connected to ball valves first, and then to the pipe/tubing for easy maintance. My question at this point is how do I connect the input and output on the eheim 1250 to the ball valves, as well as increasing the diameter to 1"? The connections on the ehiem look like they are made for tubing and are a lot smaller than 1"

The input connector is 3/4" on the threaded side (which connects to the ehiem), and about 5/8th " on the hose connection side.

The output connector is 1/2" on the threaded side, and about 3.5-4/8th" on the hose connection side.

Here is a link to the product page for a decent picture of what im taking about if it will help (im confused just writing it). hmm, looks like you have to click on the Products->Pumps->Pumps to get to the pic.

Any help will be appreciated,
Thanks in advance

pretty easy actually. You would take the hose that will come with the filter to HomeDepot (or good Plumbing Supply store). Tell them that you need to connect a ballvalve to the hose...they will supply you with everything you need....

You have a lot of faith in HomeDepot. I wouldn't trust mine to tell me how to connect a garden hose to my outdoor tap. I think the HomeDepots in Canada suck. BTW I'm interrested in hearing how to hard plumb an Eheim 1250. I just got one too.
