How to connect inlet with pump (for Refugium)

Wind

New member
Hi,

I have a HOB Refugium which requires a pump, as such I am looking to connect a Sicce pump, or any pump that would fit the following inlet.

I am unsure what to get as both the inlet and the Sicce pump are different. Do I need to reduce the inlet with some bushing, or pvc, or plastic hose? I want to be able to dettach for cleaning as well. I'm not too familiar with plumbing parts.

The inlet looks like it's 1/2 inch? Am I measuring it correctly?

Thanks.

How much flow is required for your HOB refugium? I know the Sicce 1.5 pushes 358 gph and uses a 1/2” barb connection.

Okay, Here is the pic.

Yes, I think 200-350 GPH is no problem. The issue is getting the connection fitted between the 2.

The inlet is part of the unit, so I can't change that, but I could probably use different pumps to try, but I still don't know what to use to connect 2 different sizes?

Thanks

Looks to me like you can likely find vinyl tubing that fits over the inlet and onto the larger barb section of the pump fitting.. No reducing needed.. Just use 2 stainless hose clamps on the tubing to secure it..
Voila... simple..

Thanks. I will go Home Depot and see. For the clamps, would lock ties be better?

IF your connections will be underwater and the possibilities of a leak actually causing a flood or other issues then cable ties would be ok..
If not I recommend hose clamps..

If the hose is a tight fit, put the end in boiling water for a few seconds first. If even more help is needed, put a very thin layer of olive oil or butter on it first.
