hi everyone,

its been about 5 months that im fighting against a big problem of aiptasia that is invading and covering all my live rocks.:mad2:

i tried to control it with aiptasia-x and joes juice but nothing seems working and they continue to multiply.

Some will suggest to put peppermint shrimps or filefish, but i have a trigger fish.

I would like to know if their other solutions to fight against big aiptasia bloom.

I was thinking to put a butterfly fish (raccoon or auriga), but i dont know if its a hit or a miss, or maybe change all my live rocks to new rocks.:uhoh3:

what do you guys think? if you have some advice plz send a reply.

thank you

why not an aiptasia eating filefish? I got one and it wiped them out in a week or two. of course it started eating my acans after but since you dont have coral it should be no problem.

as for the trigger, how big is it? maybe you can try a large filefish

also what about a copperband butterfly??

Butterfly fish, hands down. Berghia are expensive and I'm not positive they work. I put six in a little cube that had aiptasia and I never saw them and still have aiptasia.

I had a few aiptasia in my 240 fowlr and have 8 butterflies in there-0 aiptasia now.

I could be wrong, but I would guess almost all of them would knock the problem out. Racoons are supposed to be good, I don't own one though. Is there one you like in particular?

Stop wasting money on Joe's Juice, Aiptasia-X, etc. You can make a thick slurry of pickling lime and it will be just as effective at about 2% of the cost.

Why not let them grow? They're only really a nuisance if you have coral and they start killing it.

If you're killing them off just because everyone else does then that's a foolish reason.

If you don't like the way they look then that's reasonable and completely understandable.

In reality they are filter feeding a little extra for you.

I tend to think aiptasia just get a bad wrap all around for only one specific reason. In a FOWLR you don't have that problem.

i just want to control the population, because when you have beautiful pink rocks and they turn all covered in brown its looks a little ugly.

but honestly, having a few of those aiptasia doesnt bother me
