Hello everyone,
I have fluorescent Green Star Polyps, and purple star ployps, they are spreading like crazy How do I control the spreading. I do like them but they seem to be taking over alot of rocks.

Thank you

You can try peelong the mat off the rocks, but I never had any luck with that. I eventually removed the rock and chipped off the GSP with a hammer and chisel.

thank you,
one rock is completely cover with it,but that is the only coral on it.
it did migrate to other rocks with other corals on it thats my concern. one rock with zoas on it did get about 1 inch covered, that should be easy enough too get with a razor. but theres another rock that it spread to that has corals and mushrooms on it, and I dont know how to stop it.

Thanks again.

not easy at all and thats why its recommended they stay solo on there own area. you could try putting down epoxy over the areas were the GSP are

I like to place the colony in the sand bed for a few weeks. This seem to kill it off.
Does any one know of any animals that graze on the star polys exclusively. This would be the best solution?

will epoxy work on the smaller areas, and can something grow over the epoxy once it sets.

there also some parts were it has grown but you only see the mat part and it has no polyps, that is usually were light doesn't hit it, like under my kenya tree, but it still continues to grow.

Hey put it against the back wall and try to get it to grow up it. Otherwise I wish I had your problem. mine just stopped growing.

I had GSP in my tank and it was taking over the rock. I ended up removing all the rock that it was on. The rock that was total covered I took to a LFS and the other rock I just brushed off with a wire bush. If you use the wire brush method don't do it in your tank.

thank you, I do have a big rock that is covered that I'm going to post here today for sale, I did scrap another spot and I think that is working, there's one other area under my kenya treebut that part is really just the mat part there aren't that many polyps, I guess thats do to light. I do like the gsp, but it seems to be taking over. I cut a small piece out, and I might try to mount it on a smaller rock away form everything else and make sure it doesn't touch any thing.

I've had good luck with a thick kalk solution dispensed out of a syringe. You have to shut your pumps down but you just coat the entire area and let it sit for 15 minutes or so. Then you can siphon the kalk back out and turn the pumps back on. The kalk does an real nice job getting in the nooks and crannies. Just be careful not to overdose your tank.

Beyond that, I've used a stainless wires brush and scrubbed them off. Of course that only really works on the flatter surfaces.

It takes time and a bit of diligence, but you can beat them down if you stay up with it.
