How to convince your other to let you go bigger!?!

I have had my 1st salt tank going for about 9 months now. A 120g dt, that I have spent somewhere in the ballpark of $3000 on everything (that I will admit too). And the tank is officially in the stable and time to grow out phase. I just added my first real pieces of sps this week, and I have a good amount of lps that has been happy for a few months. And next week when I move some fish over from my QT, I will officially have 9 in the tank.

So you think I would be content, nah. I find myself wanting something in the 210 to 250g range for a reef, and in my perfect world a second 250ish fowlr tank. My wife has been great about the first tank, and I already can hear the response if I mention a bigger one. Either, "You just set up your first one we have other way higher priorities," or "Are you nuts!!!! Maybe someday, but not now."

So how did you convince or plan to convince your other to let you go bigger?

I'm in the same boat. I also have a 120 and I really want a 220. If u find out let me know. Lol

Get her into Fish. My wife agreed to a huge tank a couple weeks ago after watching videos online of Fish heavy big tanks. compared to my low bioload shallow tanks she loved the movement.

Now i just need to find a good deal on a big tank.

That's what I did... got her hooked on some larger fish (i.e., Trigger fish) and told her that my old tank wouldn't be able to keep it alive.

Thus my recent upgrade :)

Good luck!

Get her to buy a fish that will be to small for your 120 like a naso tang or something like that....LOL it worked for me i went from a 65 to a 150

Just stop now. Go look in the mirror and you'll see that other guy (the sane one) telling you that it is big enough for now. Ive been through the whole process in my 30+ yrs as an aquarists. I have a 600g tank and its still not big enough... Ive had to just stop and realize that there is no end to this addiction. Listen to the woman. After being married for 20 yrs Ive figured out that she is usually right.

I take my wife with me to the fish store - let her see all the pretty stuff - and then explaining why we can't get this or that because the tank is too small/protein skimmer wouldn't be able to keep up/need better lighting/not compatible with what we have (so we need another tank) It has worked well so far.....as long as she doesn't catch on......

You take your wife with you to the fish store? That means she'll see how much all those $20 corals actually are.

It was only 20 bucks. I know, it's gigantic, but they had a sale.

His wife must have gotten his login info and posted this

convince?? Ive always just sent the wife out for a day at the spa.. (my treat) then had the boys come over and unload and set up the system I had hidden ( had to wait till I could afford to pay for the spa) worked 3 times so far .

But why would she even turn down a bigger one? Maybe try a new scape, sometimes it can make things appear larger.

I asked for forgiveness. I have a 60g that just got stable and then someone was selling a 120 for 150 bucks. I said hey I can spend 400 later or 150 now. But my wife likes the hobby and adding things. Not the maintenance but the picking out items. Or you can always try the route of saying. I am getting a project car that is going to cost 15x's as much.

Get Her Hammered, then pop the question.Judgement & Decisions are the first things affected by It.
