How to disable flash on Nikon D70?

I'm in a bit of a jam and I don't know how to turn off the flash .. problem is, I don't have time to pour over tech docs and it's not obvious in the menus or anywhere else (as it is on most cameras)...

anyone care to shed some light?
I want auto, but no flash ..
or macro, but no flash..

thanks!

With the D-50 hold the flash button and turn the commander knob until you see it disabled on the top LCD; I’d assume it would be the same on the D-70. Although try shooting in the A or M mode when doing macro.

I havnt figured out how to turn it off in macro mode either. I now use mostly A mode anyway and wouldnt go back to macro mode. Once you start tweaking settings you never go back jack!

That is to say in S, A and/or M if you don't have the flash popped up, it won't and therefore won't fire.

It must be the 70s model with the vari-program modes. The post above summed it up.

The only mode the flash is automatically used is in "P" mode.
