i read the post at the top of the forum about feeding, and saw the clam diagram, but i still dont know where the mouth is. I really need to feed my clam, b/c i have read articles saying youneed to feed clams under 4 inches. WHere is the mouth? ps its a deresa

i'd say put a soda bottle over it and put the food in there. let the clam feed on what's in there untill the phyto is gone.

Woaw - hold on there a minute.

There is literature supporting feeding clams UNDER 2.5 inches (although that is now starting to come under debate) but anything over should be just fine with adequate lighting. As clams get older, their digestive systems atrophy and eventually become inactive (large maximas, gigas).

For a 4 incher, you don't need to feed so don't worry about it!

I feed my tank mainly for the fish and corals and cryptic organisms, and I figure it's there if the clams would care to filter some....My tank creates a lot of it's own zooplankton also- as a result everyone seems happy. My clams are a 2" gold maxima, a 3 1/2" derasa, and a 3 1/2" gigas. And a fat and happy 2 1/2 year old mandarin who has never eaten any added foods that I've noticed....

Just feed the tank with Phythoplankton, I have a maxima 1.5 inches for about 7 or 8 months with no problems, never spot feed it. I use kents but people likes dts

Johnsteph10, can you refer me to a link or a reference to "their digestive systems atrophy and eventually become inactive (large maximas, gigas)" as they grow.
