How to fix a leaky bulkhead?

The bulkhead of my newly aquared wet dry Amiraclw maxi reef 300 is leaking. Its leaking around the black peice that sticks in the hole.

Should I use silicon to fix this?

Any input.

You can try tightening it more, just not so much that it makes the gasket overly compressed, which can leak too. If it's too tight, maybe try loosening it as weird as it sounds. As long as the bulkhead and gasket is in good shape it should be able to hold water with the right torque applied

If u can dry the area of the sump go for it and check for particles around the o-ring.
If all else fails u can certainly sandwich it with silicone.

My bulkhead was leaking when I first set up my new tank the other day. I don't know if your having the same issue I had, but the gasket was not centered properly on the topside of the bulkhead. It was spraying water everywhere.

I just loosened it, re-centered it and it's fine now.

Could also be a particle of something wedged in there as someone else said.

I had an overflow box that had gaskets smooth on one side and ribbed on the other. If I had it upside down, it leaked.

Just a few more ideas for you. Hope you figure it out.

Oh. I also would not silicone it. It would suck to get out should the gasket deteriorate and if not fully cleaned off you could have worse leaking issues down the road.
